How We Rate Casinos
At 10xstages.ca, every casino score comes from a fixed, repeatable method. We use the same criteria for Captain Cooks Casino and for every other operator we cover for Canadian players. The criteria below are listed in descending order of importance, and each carries a weight in the final 2026 score. We read the terms, test the product and check public records. Operators cannot pay for a higher score.
1. Licensing & Regulation (25%)
A casino without a valid licence cannot be trusted with your money, so this is our most heavily weighted factor. We check the licence number on the regulator's public register instead of relying on a footer badge.
- Local Canadian oversight: In Ontario we look for registration with iGaming Ontario and the AGCO. For other provinces we note whether the site operates under a provincial monopoly or a recognised authority such as the Kahnawake Gaming Commission.
- Malta Gaming Authority (MGA): We rate it highly for its player-protection rules, dispute process and audit requirements.
- UK Gambling Commission (UKGC): We treat it as one of the strictest standards worldwide and give extra credit for it.
- Curaçao: We accept it as a baseline but score it lower unless the operator shows strong self-regulation and fair dispute handling.
- Other trust signals: We also check the operating company, years in business, SSL encryption, and independent RNG testing by labs such as eCOGRA or iTech Labs.
An unverifiable licence caps the casino's total score at 4.0, whatever its other strengths.
2. Game Selection & Software Providers (20%)
We look at the quality of the lobby as well as the number of titles.
- Slots: We check the range of themes, volatility levels, jackpot titles (including progressive networks) and the published RTP of popular games.
- Live casino: We test blackjack, roulette, baccarat and game-show tables for stream quality, table limits, dealer professionalism and the hours tables are open.
- Table games and specialty: We count the variety of blackjack, roulette and poker variants, plus video poker and other extras.
- Providers: We favour established studios such as Microgaming (Games Global), Evolution, Pragmatic Play and Play'n GO. We also check that games are available to players in Canada, since some titles are geo-blocked.
3. Bonus Terms & Wagering Requirements (18%)
A large headline offer means little if the conditions are unreasonable. We read the full bonus terms and work out what the offer is realistically worth.
- Wagering (rollover): We compare the multiplier, whether it applies to the bonus alone or to bonus plus deposit, and how long you have to complete it.
- Maximum cashout and bet limits: We note caps on winnings from free spins or no-deposit offers and the maximum bet allowed while a bonus is active.
- Game contribution: We check how much slots, table games and live games count toward wagering.
- Clarity and fairness: We look for plain-language terms, no hidden clauses and consistent application. Ongoing promotions and loyalty programs count too, not only the welcome offer.
- Canadian currency: Offers and wagering in CAD, without conversion fees, score higher.
